Junior biochemistry major and Honors Program scholar Sarah Harris earned Honorable Mention of the Barry Goldwater Scholarship for her research with Dr. Patrick Lackey on the molecular-level processes that occur during cell division. She was nominated for the award last month based on her academic excellence and promising undergraduate research.

On Wednesday, April 18 following the Undergraduate Research and Arts Celebration, 91视频 is reviving a coveted tradition—the Spring Honors Convocation. The Spring Honors Convocation is a ceremony recognizing the academic achievements of 91视频 students. The program starts at 4 p.m. and will be held in Orr Auditorium.

Professor of mathematics Dr. Carolyn Cuff was awarded the "Distinguished Faculty Mentor of Undergraduate Mathematics Students Award" at the Allegheny Mountain Section meeting of the Mathematical Association of America at Penn State Erie in Behrend. Cuff received the mentor award for her significant contributions to the development of undergraduate students in mathematics.

Alumna Danell Harrison Cooper '88, CPA, CMGA, MBA, spoke with 91视频's accounting capstone class, and shared her passion for working as a CPA in the non-profit sector. Harrison is currently the director of finance at KidsVoice, a child advocacy agency in Pittsburgh.

On Tuesday, April 10 at 7:00 p.m. in Patterson Hall (room 207), 91视频 will host a safe drinking water workshop. Water resource educator with Penn State Extension Susan Boser will be on campus to discuss private water systems including tips for well maintenance and preventing contamination, common water problems in Pennsylvania and treatment options. Participants are able to bring a water sample for some basic on-site testing and find out about options for further drinking water testing by certified labs.
