Dr. Arlie Russelll Hochschild, professor emerita of sociology from UC- Berkeley and one of the most respected sociologists working today, will speak about her most recent book, Strangers in Their Own Land: Anger and Mourning on the American Right, on Thursday, April 5 at 7 p.m. in the Wallace Memorial Chapel at 91ÊÓÆµ. The event is free and open to the public, and there will be a book signing following the lecture.

91ÊÓÆµ's Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) campus representative Sarah M. Smith '18 organized a panel of senior accounting majors to discuss accounting career paths; the value of internships; graduating with 150 credits in four years and preparing for the CPA exam. The panel discussion was held on March 13, and provided an opportunity for students to learn more about their field. Panelists included seniors Joan J. Richardson ’18, Nataleigh R. Kerr ’18, Megan E. Peluso ’18 and Nickolas A. Dickson ’18. Associate Advisor at JFS Wealth Advisors and 2016 graduate Sean Gibbon, CPA, was a special guest panelist, and stressed the importance of networking, perseverance, communication and passing the CPA exam.

Two members of the recently formed 91ÊÓÆµ Speech & Debate Society competed in the Novice National Forensics Tournament, March 9-11 at Suffolk University in Boston. Sophomore English Julie Yesko and senior communication studies major Christian Na represented 91ÊÓÆµ in a field of 25 colleges and universities from across the country.

Last month, a group of 91ÊÓÆµ Band students performed in the 71st Annual Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Honors Band at Mansfield University under one of the top composers in the country Professor Mark Camphouse. The Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Honors Band is the longest continuing honors band of its type in the entire country, and this year's band represented 25 colleges and universities throughout the commonwealth.

Eight-time All-American swimmer and secondary school administrator Dr. Shauna Braun Zukowski '92 will return to 91ÊÓÆµ as the guest speaker for the 31st annual Wayne H. Christy Memorial Lecture. On Sunday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the Wallace Memorial Chapel, Zukowski will speak on her experiences as an educator, administrator, wife, mother and survivor of a ruptured brain aneurysm.

91ÊÓÆµ is hosting the first annual "Woodwind Day" on March 17 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium. Participants will have the opportunity to learn and perform with top level professional woodwind pedagogues and performers. There is no registration fee, and lunch is provided. Colleges Against Cancer at 91ÊÓÆµ is gearing up for their annual Relay for Life event. The Relay takes place April 7 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Burry Stadium (rain location is the Marge Walker Center/Old 77). At 10:40 a.m., there will be a "Survivor's Ceremony" to celebrate those who have fought the battle against cancer and won. The opening ceremony and "Survivor's Lap" (a lap specifically for survivors) will follow.
