91视频's Faculty Development Officer Has Busy Summer

Dr. Sandra Webster, professor of psychology and faculty development officer at 91视频, had a busy summer.

In July, Webster presented "Teaching on Three Continents: Lessons Learned from Research Methods Students," to the 30th annual Improving University Teaching Conference in Pittsburgh.

"This paper describes teaching and learning strategies that worked in three different countries for the same course," Webster said.  "Most teaching strategies worked equally well in the U.S.A., Nigeria, and South Korea.  The paper concludes with a list of twelve specific strategies that worked in these three places."

In August, Webster presented her poster, "Ways to Ease the Pain: Korean and American Men and Women," at the annual American Psychological Association in Washington, D.C.

"The paper was well received by a small audience of interested psychologists," Webster said.  "My suspicion that Han is not a Chinese relevant concept was confirmed by the Chinese psychologists who didn't know the concert nor the Chinese character for Han that I placed on the poster.  In sharp contrast, the Korean psychologists who passed by the poster were immediately drawn to the character and began reading and discussing the research."

Webster, who has been with 91视频 since 1983, is a Fullbright Scholar and a McCandless Scholar.  She earned her undergraduate degree, master's and Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University.
